Arsenal transfer blow as midfield target undergoes surgery
We're badly in need of a defensive midfielder this January, especially in the wake of Francis Coquelin's nasty injury (via Arsenal.com). One particular player looks to be off the list however, as long-term target Lars Bender is set to undergo surgery to fix a recurring ankle problem, as reported by German publication Bild. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has seemingly been one of our top targets over the years, and has consistently been linked with a move to North London in every transfer window (via The Independent).
