Per Mertesacker is yet to feature this season through injury
Following the arrival of Shkodran Mustafi at Arsenal, Mertesacker is not guaranteed to be first choice at the Emirates. The 32-year-old, who is out of contract next summer, revealed this week he was open to a return to Germany at the end of the season. Hannover then expressed an interest in bringing the former Germany international back to his first club. And now Werder Bremen have revealed they would be interested in the defender if Arsenal do not extend his contract. Baumann, the Bundesliga club's sporting director, who played alongside Mertesacker from 2006 to 2009, admitted talks for the defender begun...
